On 23rd and 24th February 2013, Build It and Home Improvement magazine’s first consumer show, Build It Live, was a success as the show made its debut at Glow, Bluewater. Castle Media, publisher of Build It and Home Improvement magazine, also held Glow’s a business-to-business event, Build It Tool Show, within Glow’s lower hall in conjunction with Build It Live for self-builders, home renovators and property developers wanting to build a bespoke home. In addition to exhibitors, visitors were able to speak to experts, and attend free seminars and workshops.
On 1st December 2012 Glow Bluewater, celebrated its first birthday with an appearance by former F1 World Champion, Jenson Button. Button, fresh from winning the last race of the 2012 F1 season in a rain-soaked Brazil, held two audiences with over 1,500 members of the public in Glow’s lower hall, as part of a promotion by Santander, corporate sponsor of the McLaren F1 team. It also coincided with Glow’s first birthday, after a successful year welcoming over 600,000 people. Button’s appearance at Glow for the Santander promotion was his second visit to Bluewater. In October 2009, Button received a hero’s welcome from thousands of fans as he made his first public appearance in the UK, having won the 2009 F1 World Championship just days before in Brazil.
Glow, Bluewater hosted the UK Streetdance Association’s (UKSA) first UK Streetdance Championship. The sell-out event was held in Glow’s lower hall, with more than 550 streetdancers from across the UK competing in a variety of categories, including solos, style battles and team events. Over 1,100 people in total attended the event, where the top prize in the competition was £1,000. In addition to the streetdancing, which was judged by some of the best-known streetdancers in the world, Glow’s lower hall was also the venue for ‘Ball2Ball’, the largest two-on-two knockout basketball competition in the country.
On 13th October 2012, Glow was the location of choice for boxing fans around the world as 2008 Olympic Gold Medallist, James DeGale MBE, successfully defended his European Super Middleweight Champion title in front of a 2,700 capacity crowd. The event was the first sporting spectacular to be held at Glow, Bluewater. The fight was televised live on Channel 5 in the UK, and around the globe including Wealth TV in the United States of America. The combination of the two halls worked perfectly, with the public enjoying the bar and catering facilities downstairs, before heading to the upper hall to watch the live sport.
Mercury Event’s bi-annual Wedding Fair returns to Glow after a successful launch last September. The show was even bigger in 2013, with increased exhibitor numbers and new elements to the experience it was a fantastic day out for all the bridal party. With a beautiful catwalk show featuring stunning gowns in every style from the best boutiques.
